The 4-H Horse Project had their second annual Schooling Horse Show in August at the Chino Valley Equestrian Park. According to 4-H director Jessica Daugherty, they had good attendance from their two clubs, Prescott Shamrock Hustlers and Ash Fork Sunsets, plus additional kids that traveled here from the valley.

The Park has been an enormous support to the 4-H-ers generously providing memberships to the kids so they can ride for free. Kudos to the judge of the show who graciously donated her time.

The new 4H year kicked off on October 1.

Yavapai County Junior Rodeo Association wrapped up their record-breaking fourth season. With more than 200 members between ages three to eighteen, there were 160 contestants that qualified for year-end prizes and membership jackets including an incredible sixty PeeWee’s ages three to seven.

YCJRA is committed to provide local, affordable rodeos for Arizona youth, while preserving and promoting the Western way of life as they grow above and beyond. According to YCJRA secretary Kelcy Lyons, “We are four seasons down, and just getting started.”

Future Farmers of America, Chino Valley chapter sold an amazing 1025 tickets to their famous annual Corn Dinner. The kids served approximately 1250 meals and cooked over a whopping 5000 ears of corn. According to local FFA advisor Amy Dillard, K-4 Gourmet Beef generously donated 1000 lbs. of brisket. Students at Heritage and Del Rio Schools enjoyed the corn on the cob for lunch the following week and Culinary High School students cooked a meal from the leftovers for staff before the Parent Teacher conferences. The donation raffle raised over $3,000 for the FFA chapter.

Let’s hear it for our area youth and their amazing efforts and their amazing successes.
